This project begins simply – with creating textiles from organically grown Kala cotton, chosen for its natural beauty and texture. Our partner in this process is Hira from the Handloom Design Centre, whom we’ve visited almost every year to collaborate on new weaves.
The fabric we use for these curtains is intentionally lightweight and semi-transparent, allowing natural light to gently pass through. Even when the curtains are drawn, you can still feel the presence of sunlight. The texture has a lace-like quality, with a soft translucency that brings calm and elegance to any space.
Woven into this fabric is a subtle motif rooted in the local traditions of Kutch, the region where the fabric is made. The pattern is called Dongali – a shape made of two stacked triangles, like a butterfly turned vertically. To incorporate this motif, artisans use a meticulous technique that involves laying threads over the weft yarns, almost like embroidery. It’s a delicate and skilful process that requires true craftsmanship.
Our curtains are available in a variety of styles. At Weftus, we design them to work with A/B hooks or to be hung with tension rods or fabric ties. Each piece is made to order to fit the unique size of your window or doorway.
手織りの布で作る、オーダーメイドのカーテン。このプロジェクトは、シンプルに生地が美しいオーガニックのカラコットンでテキスタイルを作るところから始まります。一緒に作るのは、Handloom Design CenterのHiraさん。毎年のように訪れては、新しい布を織ってもらっています。この布は、遮光性をあえて控え、光がある程度透り、カーテンを閉めていても外の光を感じられるような素材です。レースのような、透け感が美しい布です。 その布には、この布の産地カッチ（Kutch）の伝統柄がさりげなくあしらわれています。その柄の名前はドンガリ（dongali）、三角形を二つ上下に重ねたような、蝶々を縦にしたような柄です。この柄を入れるには、横糸の上から糸をまるで刺繍をするかのように重ねて織る、繊細な手仕事、職人技が必要なものです。 カーテンの種類はいくつかありますが、WeftusではA/B両用フックタイプも、突っ張り棒や紐などを通して吊るすこともできるようにデザインされています。ご自宅の窓や扉のサイズに合わせてオーダーいただけます。
