Handloom Design Centre (HDC) is a weaving collective in Bhujodi, Gujarat, formed by a family from the Vankar weaving tradition. Their craft has been passed down through 11 generations, shaped through centuries of cultural exchange with the nomadic Rabari community. Traditionally woven into dhabla shawls and loodi head veils, these textiles have long been a part of everyday life. Today, they continue to evolve into scarves, sarees, and home textiles – while staying true to their original spirit.

The family has been widely recognised for their excellence, receiving over 10 National Awards. Their grandfather was honoured with the Shilp Guru, India’s highest award for master artisans, and the current generation has recently received a State Award. For HDC, handloom is more than just a technique – it’s a way of life, a source of pride, and a cultural identity.

With deep respect for both the artisan’s hand and the stories they carry, HDC continues to create textiles that are functional, ethical, and relevant to today. Every piece they weave holds the memory of their land and the journey of their lineage.
