Storytellers in cloth, Mata ni Pachedi artisans

A master of Mata ni Pachedi, Chitara Chandrakant carries forward a 300-year-old sacred art form born from the Vaghari community of Gujarat. Traditionally painted on cloth using bamboo pens and natural dyes, these narrative works honour the Mother Goddess and reflect deep cultural memory. Chitara’s work preserves this heritage while exploring contemporary stories, blending devotion, resistance, and artistry with every hand-drawn line.
